Heritage Auctions Unveils Rare Baseball Cards

Heritage Auctions is gearing up to showcase a dazzling array of rare and sought-after baseball cards at their upcoming Summer Sports Card Catalog Auction on July 12-13. This highly anticipated event is set to feature a spectacular lineup of valuable collectibles, including a mint-condition 1952 Topps Jackie Robinson card, a gem-mint Michael Jordan Fleer rookie card, and a chrome rookie card signed by a young Bryce Harper.

A standout highlight of the auction is a collection of 1959 baseball cards that were once stapled to containers of Canadian cookies. These cards, with only 69 in PSA’s population report, are a rarity in the collectibles world. Featuring legendary players like Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays, and Hank Aaron, these cards are a treasure trove for collectors seeking iconic sports memorabilia.

The significance of the Dad’s Cookies cards lies in their unique history and rarity. Produced by Exhibits Supply Company in 1959 as promotional items for Dad’s Cookies, these cards were distributed by stapling them to cookie bags and boxes. With each card bearing a note from the company’s mascot urging kids to collect all 64 “autographed” pictures, these cards have become highly sought after due to their scarcity and limited surviving examples.

The auction also boasts two of the most coveted Ty Cobb T206 cards from the early 1900s. The El Principe de Gales Ty Cobb, graded PSA NM 7, stands out as an exceptionally rare card with only one known example featuring the El Principe de Gales advertisement on the back. The American Beauty Portrait-Red Cobb, graded PSA EX-MT 6, is hailed as the highest-graded example of its kind, adding to its allure for collectors.

In addition to these rare finds, collectors will have the opportunity to explore sealed boxes and cases, offering the thrill of uncovering hidden treasures. From the nostalgia-inducing 1970 Topps Baseball Wax Box with unopened packs potentially containing baseball legends, to newer boxes like the 2015 Upper Deck Hockey Series 1 Hobby Unopened Case and the 2020 Panini Flawless Football Factory Sealed Case, this auction promises excitement and intrigue for collectors.

The Summer Sports Card Catalog Auction by Heritage Auctions is not just an event, but an experience for sports memorabilia enthusiasts. With a unique selection of rare and valuable cards up for grabs, this auction presents a special opportunity for collectors to add prized pieces to their collections. Whether seeking iconic baseball cards or the thrill of unboxing sealed packs, this auction is sure to delight and captivate collectors of all levels.
