REA’s February Auction Sets Records

Robert Edward Auctions (REA) has once again made waves in the sports collectibles market with its recently concluded February auction, which saw impressive sales totaling over $1.2 million. The star of the auction was undoubtedly the PSA 5 graded M116 Sporting Life Honus Wagner card, which fetched a staggering $75,000, setting a new record for its version and highlighting the continued demand for rare vintage sports cards.

Not to be outdone, a Ty Cobb Blue Background card from the same M116 Sporting Life series, graded PSA GOOD 2, also made headlines by breaking the record for its condition with a sale price of $15,000. The auction drew in a large number of registry builders and collectors, with particular interest in the offering of ten Mint 9 graded cards from the 196 Topps set. Among these, a #2 Roman Mejias PSA MINT 9 card stood out, commanding an impressive auction high of $19,200, the highest price ever paid for a non-Hall of Famer card from this set in mint condition.

Featuring a wide array of 2,732 items up for auction, REA presented a diverse selection of collectibles, with other top sellers including a 1909-1911 T206 White Border Ty Cobb Portrait Red Background PSA VG-EX 4 selling for $21,000, a 1934 R320 Goudey #37 Lou Gehrig PSA EX-MT 6 fetching $18,000, and a 1986-1987 Fleer Basketball PSA NM-MT 8 Complete Set going for $12,000, among other notable sales.

REA’s President, Brian Dwyer, expressed his delight at the auction’s success and the overwhelming response from the collector community. Dwyer also hinted at upcoming attractions for REA’s March and Spring Auctions, promising even more excitement and opportunities for enthusiasts and collectors in the near future.

This auction by REA not only highlights the enduring appeal and value of vintage sports cards and memorabilia but also sets the stage for future events, offering a glimpse of the exciting opportunities that lie ahead for collectors and enthusiasts alike. With the next Encore event set to take place from March 14th to 24th and the Spring Catalog Auction kicking off on April 5th, REA continues to solidify its position as a premier platform for the sports collectibles market, attracting attention and enthusiasm from collectors worldwide.
